Passing of cheques with endorsements

Endorsement in prima facie order	Before passing a cheque, the cancellation officer shall ensure that the endorsement made thereon is prima facie in order.
Courtesy title not allowed	In case of individuals, it is not accompanied by a courtesy title.
Endorsement to correspond with the name of cheque	In case of individuals, the spellings of the endorsement correspond with the spelling of the name of the payee given on the cheque.
Cheque endorsed by constituted attorney.	In case of individuals, cheque endorsed by a constituted attorney is in fact signed by a constituted attorney to the satisfaction of the bank.
Signature and designation on the follow name of payee	In case of clubs and societies: ·       The name of the payee is followed by the signature and designation of the officer-bearer, endorsing the cheque. ·       If the cheque is payable to the holder of an officer, without specifying the name of  the office bearer, the endorsement includes the signature and the designation of the office bearer such as : For and on behalf of Rotary Club Zaman Murshed Treasurer.

ü Before verifying a signature on a cheque, cancellation officer shall invariably refer to the specimen signature Card of the drawer of the cheque.

ü In case signature differ, cheques shall not be passed unless drawer confirmation is obtained. However, after returning the cheque, reference should be made to the manager.

ü If parties have changed the style of their signature, fresh signatures shall be obtained on the specimen signature cards approved by the authorized officer along with a letter of request before passing the cheque and the old signature cards should be treated as cancelled giving date retained with the specimen signature cards.

ü Cancellation officer should not pass any cheque unless the cheque is posted in the core banking software.

ü The cancellition shall be done by waving a red line across the signature of the drawer of the cheque. The cancellation officer shall sign in full in red ink near the drawer signature.

ü In case of payment of cheque in cash, a ‘pay cash” stamp shall be affixed on the cheque, and signed by the cancellation officer.

In case of cheques, it shall have to be scrutinized and checked that :

§  Account number and title of account on the cheque tally with the account number and title of account given on core banking software.

§  Number of cheque tallies with the cheque series noted in the account.

§  Special attention has been paid to stop payment and other instruction regarding operations on the account.

§  The cheque is drawn on the bank and branch, where it is presented for payment.

§  The cheque is an open cheque i.e uncrossed.

§  In case it is an order cheque payable in cash, the payee identity is verified.

§  It is not post- dated, undated or out of date cheque.

§  The amount in words and figures tally.

§  The cheque is duly signed by the drawer.

§  Cutting and alterations have been authenticated under full signature of the drawer.

Stale Cheque	In Bangladesh, If a Cheque is not presented to the bank within 6 months from the date written on the cheque is known as a stale cheque.	If the cheque dated 10/01/2019 is presented to the bank on 10/10/2019, the cheque will be retuned by bank stating that cheque is stale.
Post-dated cheque	If any cheque issued by a holder to the payee for the upcoming withdrawn  date, then that type of cheque is called post-dated cheque.	On 10 January 2019, Rafiq issued a cheque to Zaman. Date written on the cheque is 15/02/2019.
Ante-dated cheque	If date entered on the cheque is prior to the current date, that type of cheque is known as Ante-dated cheque.	On 10 January 2019, Rafiq issued a cheque to Zaman. Date written on the cheque is 10 January 2018.
